Helping elders better nagivate the city space.
The UpWalker is a multifunctional walker designed to help elders navigate over different terrains in the city space, notably stairs and ramps. By using the angled frontal grips, the whole walker can work as a supporting frame when navigating up and downstairs.
This is enabled by the brake system which is enabled by default and only released by the user when walking, therefore preventing accidents in case the user forgets while climbing stairs. To prevent any form of collision with the walker during use, the seat can also be adjusted and moved further ahead. Lastly, the walker also comes with a removable basket for the user’s potential shopping or carrying needs.
This concept is the final outcome of the User-Oriented Design course offered in the first semester of the Design & Innovation Bachelor’s degree.
