Revitalising the Chinese country side.
Revitalization of Zhushi is a concept proposal for giving the Chinese countryside some new and modern life. It consists of 2 main ideas, the “Cycling Town” and “Shared Workspace”.
Cycling Town is a concept based around biking as the name suggests. The goal was to introduce a healthy lifestyle for the townspeople while also providing a better transportation infrastructure for them generally, also reducing the pollution from cars. Hopefully, the more spontaneous potential of the bike would also facilitate more social interactions between the people.
Shared Workspace focuses on the social interaction between people. Through shared workspace in the architecture design, we want to promote people to engage more actively in social relations with each other. This way, the local values and culture can be integrated into the citizens’ daily lives as a “shared” workspace, improving social relations and not least creating an identity for the town.
More details can be found in the poster presentation below, which sums up the whole process and outcomes.
The project was a big workshop collaboration between Tohoku University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, which I partook in during my exchange at Tohoku University. It lasted the whole semester I was there, where we first worked on the project in groups at our own university, thereafter going to China for the actual workshop and physical visiting of the site. The two presented concepts are just some of the many made during the workshop but were the ones I was part of personally.
